“Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys” – Proverbs 18:9

Many of the great architectural feats that we marvel at did not form overnight. A few examples include: the Great Wall of China, which took over 2,000 years to be built. The Taj Mahal, which was constructed in 45 years. The White House was built in 8 years. Finally, the Eiffel Tower was put together in 2 years. Lasting work often takes time. Similarly, in order for something to crumble, it takes time. Take, for example, the Roman Empire. While the start of the decline is up for debate, the eventual downfall of the empire took several decades, if not centuries.

Destroying something, just like building something, takes time. To be fair, there are instances where things are destroyed quickly, such as during a fire or storm, but oftentimes that is not how things come into ruin. In a garden, weeds don’t overtake plants in one night. It takes weeks and months of consistent neglect for that to happen.

In a business or in personal finances, one word can either be a blessing or a curse, and that word is consistency. If you are consistently working at building your business or savings, you will thrive and experience success. If, however, you are consistently slacking off or are neglecting your savings, you will suffer.

Everyday that goes by in which you allow for laziness to supplant hard work is one day closer to nearing ruin. A day in which you allow for poor spending habits to supplant diligent saving habits is one day closer to financial poverty. Remember, while it may take a while to see the fruit of building something great, it may also take a while to see the fruit of destroying something great. So, make everyday count.

You’re always going to be consistent at something. Be sure that you’re consistent at building great things, not destroying them.
